Your Guide to Choosing
Dog Toys

Choosing dog toys is really all about knowing your dog well enough to understand which kind of toy will make him happiest. Some dogs like to sit or sprawl and chew. Others enjoy chasing and retrieving balls. Or you may have a dog that likes to get into tug-of-wars. One thing you'll quickly discover is that there is no lack of choices when it comes to dog toys!

Dog ToysChew Toys

This type of dog toy is usually made of hard, nearly indestructible rubber or hard plastic. If your new puppy is chewing up your furniture or his own bed, give him something that'll present more of a challenge. The biggest name in chew toys that last a long time is Kong Toys. These babies are TOUGH! Trust us - your dog will be awhile tearing one of those up.

Dog ToysSqueaker Toys

Squeak toys have one or more little plastic noisemakers buried inside them. If you have yet to see this toy in action, it's hilarious! Some dogs ignore them completely, while others act like drug addicts and will do nothing else until they've found and destroyed that squeaking menace. Even if your dog isn't enticed by the squeaks, they're still great for chewing. You can't lose! Our favorites are the toys with replaceable squeakers. They last a lot longer because the noisemaker is easy to replace after your dog finally gets to it. Just when he thinks he can relax, another squeaking nemesis to destroy!

Dog ToysBall Toys

Ball dog toys are great for wearing out your dog if he's the chase-and-retrieve type. You can use a standard tennis ball or one of the toys made specifically for dogs to play with. All you need is a yard or park and a lot of room. Your pet will get a workout, and so will your arm!

Dog ToysTug Toys

Got a tugger in your house? Tug toys are great for dogs who like to grab hold and never let go. It's as if their very lives depend on hanging on to that toy. In reality, it's just their preferred play mode. If you've ever had a tugger, you know how fun it can be to watch them play with toys like these.

No one's really sure why dogs vary so much in terms of the kinds of toys they like. Preferences tend to run in breeds, although you'll find plenty of dogs who defy the norm. Whatever kind of toy player your pet happens to be, you can bet there are toys available to satisfy him!
