Need some help with pet names for large dogs?

Picking pet names is almost as excruciating for a lot of new puppy owners as naming their own kids.  Don't laugh - it's true!  It seems like large dogs are harder to name for a lot of people than smaller breeds.  I'm not sure why that is, but having a lot of canine loving friends, this has been my experience.  So here are a few pet names that fit large dogs best.  Hope they help!

'Boo'

Some pet names just seem to go great with big old floppy pooches, don't they?  I think of 'Boo' as the perfect name for large dogs like Catahoulas, Bloodhounds, Coonhounds.

'Mondo'

If you like West Coast pet names for pups who love water, 'Mondo' is a good one.  Can't you just picture large dogs who love to hang ten with their Valley Guy owner when you hear that name?

'Porky'

Pet names like 'Porky' don't even need an explanation, right?  This is perfect for puppies who start out fat and you just know are going to be extra large dogs all their lives.

'Tiny'

This is another of the many pet names given to large dogs that I love.  It's a tried-and-true formula - naming big pups something small, and little ones something huge.

'Spike'

Some pet names should evoke scary emotions, and I think 'Spike' works well.  Large dogs like Great Danes, Doberman Pinschers, and Rottweilers often get this label, and it sure does fit them in many cases!

'Rufus'

I've always associated pet names like this with a smooth character.  Sometimes it's hard to tell what a new puppy will be like when he's one of the large dogs on the block, but try 'Rufus' if he looks like he's going to be cool and in charge.
