Finding female
dog names for your new puppy
It seems that female dog
names are harder to find. I think it's because most people want a
girl puppy and all the good female dog names are already taken!
When I have to come up with a good name for a puppy, I think it's
important that females get original, appropriate ones.
We've given our share of horrible female dog names! One poor puppy
became Jake at the pound when a new animal control officer listed her as
a male. We tried to rename her, but when we really wanted her
attention, of course, she came running to "Jake."
I think good female dog names are the unusual ones (besides Jake).
Giving a puppy an exotic name like Jasmine, Isabella, or Sabrina,
somehow makes her more dignified.
On the other hand, female dog names should convey a dog's
personality. A floppy, family puppy named Molly or Lucy will always be
remembered by children as their favorite furry pal.
When choosing from female dog names, I think the right one tends to
somehow just fit. If you have a new puppy who you've become familiar
with, when you go through a book or website full of possibilities,
there's usually one where you just think, "That's her!"
Whichever of the millions of female dog names you choose, be sure to
repeat it to your puppy until she understands it means HER. No matter
which name you decide upon, make sure your little furry girl doesn't
think it's "No!"
