Two small dogs that make great
pets: Jack Russell Terriers and Dachshunds
As small dogs go, it's hard to beat
Jack Russell Terriers and Dachshunds as pets. Each has their own
distinctive personalities and quirks. Neither is perfect, by any
stretch, but that's part of what makes these small dogs delightful
companions. Jack Russell Terriers are highly intelligent and playful.
Dachshunds are territorial, aggressive in a funny way, and fiercely
loyal.
Why these small dogs are so popular
- Jack Russell Terriers, Dachshunds, and their appealing qualities
Dachshund
It's true that most small dogs make
good pets for many people. Their size makes them easier to feed, look
after, transport, etc. So why are Jack Russell Terriers and Dachshunds
in particular so popular?
First, small dogs can be, well, kind of
dumb sometimes. But Jack Russell Terriers are, pound for pound, the
smartest canines of all, hands down. Remember "Eddy" from the TV show,
'Frazier'? And Dachshunds, while not at that level, are shrewd in their
own ways. So intelligence definitely makes these smaller breeds more
popular.
Another appealing aspect of small dogs
is their cuteness. While a bigger dog has that floppy,
best-friend-to-pal-around-with charm, Jack Russell Terriers and
Dachshunds both have that quality that makes you want to hold them on
your lap and baby-talk them.
Finally, while some small dogs are
aloof and distant, Jack Russell Terriers and Dachshunds as breeds are
usually very affectionate and cuddly. In fact - personal anecdote here
- my Dachshund seeks my attention for belly rubs so often that he's
almost annoying!
