Dog urns:
celebrate your lost pet's life
More and more
dog owners are choosing decorative and meaningful dog urns to store
their lost loved one's ashes. I believe the Internet has been at least
partially responsible for this growing trend, as there are now many
online stores selling urns to those who've suffered pet loss. Do a
search at Google for "pet urn" and you'll see what I mean.
While they're
with us, our pet dogs are family members. They're that one "person" who
is always ecstatic when we come in. They help us when we're sad, and
are there to celebrate with us when we're happy. When such a loyal,
loving pet dies, we often can't (or don't want to) let them go.
So we keep our
deceased dog's ashes as a daily reminder of how special they were and
how much they meant in our lives. For many pet owners, a simple urn is
enough. But for those of us who are unabashed in our love for our dogs,
we want something personal to store their ashes when they pass on.
What type of
urn best suits your lost pet?

If you look
around, you'll find artists who specialize in high quality,
one-of-a-kind urns. I like those that feature a picture of the
dearly departed dog, either embossed into the actual urn itself, or as
an accompaniment. These unique urns are typically made from wood
(oak, cherry), ceramic, or an ornamental metal, such as brass.
Then there are
the pet urns that memorialize your dog's favorite activity, capturing
them in the way you most remember them when alive. There are urns that
have little figurines depicting dogs running or playing that many owners
go for. The idea is to celebrate your pet's love of life.
