Are electric
dog collars good for puppy training?
There are many
electric dog collars available for adult dogs and puppy training. These
electric dog collars are designed to give the animal a shock as a
correction during either puppy training or underground fence training.
But is this collar necessary?
Proponents of
electric dog collars reason that they are very effective for puppy
training and the shock is only slight.
However, if you
ever try electric dog collars on your leg or arm, you'll find out it's
quite a charge. Many trainers now believe that reward-based puppy
training, rather than painful corrections, are more effective.
In my opinion,
patience rather than electric dog collars will promote a healthier
relationship during and after puppy training sessions.
If you are at
the end of your rope and think that electric dog collars are necessary
for your sanity during puppy training, please first contact a
professional trainer. They will be able to show you techniques to try
first.
While electric dog
collars might train dogs faster, they make puppy training a bad
experience for puppies. They must do the right thing to avoid pain. The
canine-person relationship is better when sessions are fun and they
enjoy working together.
